South Africa

Suncoast Entertainment World, bright neon-coloured and art deco in character, transformed an under-utilised strip of the Durban beachfront into a vibrant, Coconut palm-lined promenade. Taking design cues from South Beach, Miami, the themed gardens are alive with brilliantly coloured and highly textured exotic plants such as Bromeliads, Crotons and Strelizias. Beautiful Coral and Fever trees form informal groves along the roadways, and Washingtonia palms line the main boulevard. The bespoke site furniture, benches, bins and bollards were designed in keeping with the art deco style. The sun deck, a forum for open-air concerts and gatherings, consists of rolling grassed embankments surrounded by sand dunes.
